Ray optics of generalized lenses.
We study the ray optics of generalized lenses (glenses), which are ideal thin lenses generalized to have different object- and image-sided focal lengths, and the most general light-ray-direction-changing surfaces that stigmatically image any point in object space to a corresponding point in image space. Gabor superlenses [UK patent541,753 (1940); J. Opt. A1, 94 (1999)JOAOF81464-425810.1088/1464...

متن کاملIon optics with electrostatic lenses
Ion optics with electrostatic lenses is presented using the standard matrix formalism of magnetic ion optics. We introduce the paraxial ray equation which is appropriate to systems with rotational symmetry. The first-order solutions of the paraxial ray equation are derived. The resulting transport matrices can be used to study systems with acceleration tube lenses, aperture lenses, einzel lense...
متن کاملGeneralized ray optics and orbital angular momentum carrying beams
In classical optics theWolf function is the natural analogue of the quantumWigner function and like the latter itmay be negative in some regions. We discuss the implications this negativity has on the generalized ray interpretation of free-space paraxial wave evolution. Important examples include two classes of beams carrying optical orbital angularmomentum—Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) andBessel beams...
متن کاملPhysical optics modeling of 2D dielectric lenses.
We propose an advanced physical optics formulation for the accurate modeling of dielectric lenses used in quasi-optical systems of millimeter, submillimeter, and infrared wave applications. For comparison, we obtain an exact full-wave solution of a two-dimensional lens problem and use it as a benchmark for testing and validation of asymptotic models being considered.
